Elbow

Our specialty-trained elbow doctors at North Louisiana Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic are experts in providing experienced care for patients’ elbow injuries and conditions.

When an elbow doctor meets with a patient to discuss their elbow issue, the elbow doctor uses their expertise to properly diagnose the condition then draws on their knowledge to offer the best treatment solutions. These specialists have significant experience working with people who are coping with elbow pain due to repetitive stress injuries, since the joint is very susceptible to them. Examples of this type of injury which many people have heard of are tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow. A less commonly known repetitive stress injury of the elbow is called cubital tunnel syndrome, which develops when a nerve on the back of the elbow becomes compressed, causing numbness and tingling.

Elbow specialists also often work with individuals who have arthritis. The symptoms are usually different from repetitive stress injuries, and people with elbow arthritis often experience aching, swelling, tenderness, and pain in the elbow.

When a patient makes a deliberate choice to work with an elbow doctor, they benefit from the specialized knowledge, skills, and insights this medical professional offers. This targeted care regularly results in reduced or eliminated elbow pain and an overall better quality of life.

Our surgeons believe in exhausting all conservative treatments first, such as physical therapy or injections, before considering a medical procedure or surgery. However, if our surgeons diagnose your damage as severe, they may recommend surgery and will educate you about the process, which includes what you need to consider, how you can prepare for surgery, and what you can expect during recovery.

Conditions

Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)

This condition, commonly called tennis elbow, is an inflammation of the tendons that connect the muscles of the forearm to the elbow. The pain is primarily felt at the lateral epicondyle, the bony bump on the outer side of the elbow.

Overuse Injuries of the Elbow

If you are an athlete, or if you work with your arms and hands, your elbows may be at risk for an overuse injury. This is an injury caused by repetitive motions. This type of injury can be a problem for people who play sports such as tennis or baseball. Children also have a higher risk, because their bones are still growing.
